Welcome back to another Top 5 Wednesday post! Today’s prompt is about the best bookish pets:
I love it when authors put pets or other adorable animals in books! That said, about half of them die by the time the book is over, but that’s irrelevant. I thought that this week we could take a moment and just be happy about our furry/scaled/feathered bookish friends.
(This month’s prompts were provided by Alex (The Scribe Owl). Top 5 Wednesday was created by GingerReadsLainey.)
Well, this prompt was a lot easier than last week’s! Though, I did have to cut down the list a bit to make it more manageable… But anyway, let’s share some of my favorite animal companions!
#5: Salem Saberhagen (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina by Robrerto Aguirre-Sacasa)
I almost didn’t include this one because I forgot there were print adaptations. And considering how Salem is literally the best, I’m very happy I did remember! Still, despite the fact that he’s hysterical and iconic (“Curse my sarcastic nature!”), I’m leaving him at the bottom of the list since technically I love him for an on-screen version.
#4: David (Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston)
Maybe this is just my bias from absolutely loving this book, but David is just great! He’s so sweet and loyal, and whenever Henry interacted with him, it was just so, so cute. Honestly, the true MVP of this book!
#3: Hedwig (Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling)
Could you really make a list of animal characters and not include Hedwig? She’s an icon! Seriously, I ask you to find one person who wouldn’t include her on their list of favorite bookish pets.
#2: Chainsaw (The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater)
Who remembers the ball of fluff that was baby Chainsaw? Definitely one of the things I’d be most excited to see if this series ever gets adapted to the silver screen. She’s honestly one of the best parts of The Raven Cycle. She’s fierce and loyal, and honestly, to me, she embodies a lot of the magic and intrigue of these books.
#1: Shadowfax (The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien)
Of course, in the top position is the animal companion to end all animal companions. Since everything Tolkien is my favorite, it’s no surprise that Shadowfax is number one, here. And considering how he’s able to run faster than the wind and is incredibly intelligent, “the lord of all horses” is deserving of that honor.
So, what do you think are the best bookish pets? Or just animals! Let me know in the comments, and happy reading!
